Dakar Rally: Adrien Van Beveren the best in the first day of the 48-hour stage
The results of this 48-hour stage will come tomorrow as this stage runs over two days. Fuel consumption had to be economical and the French HRC-Honda rider Adrien Van Beveren did this very well this morning.
Ricky Brabec came second and takes over the virtual leadership position from Ross Branch (Hero). For the cars and trucks, this first part of the 48-hour stage was shortened due to refueling points that were far apart, but not so for the motorcycles. Paul Quintanilla was the main victim of this fact and lost a lot of time.
Joan Barreda started first, but followed his closest pursuers. Brabec and Van Beveren took full advantage of Barreda's breadcrumb trail. Skyler Howes had a breakdown with his HRC Honda today and because a repair was not possible, he disappears from this Dakar Rally. Toby Price (KTM) came in virtual third today. Our three Belgians Jérôme Martiny, Pierre Saeys and Joris Van Dyck rode an excellent first part of this two-day stage.
Today the riders will receive a tent and military provisions to survive one night in the desert and have to start again tomorrow morning at 8 am local time for part two of this monster stage. There is no communication at all with the outside world, so the riders have no idea about their performance today.
