EnduroGP: Josep Garcia and Steve Holcombe rule in Portugal
Josep Garcia has continued his relentless pace in the FIM EnduroGP World Championship with victory in the EnduroGP and Enduro1 class in Valpacos, Portugal. With more podium results on day two, the Spaniard is now level on points with Honda rider Steve Holcombe.
He is now tied for the points lead in both the EnduroGP and Enduro2 categories. Our compatriot Erik Willems finished 8th in the E3 class. Hugo Vukcevic finished 17th in the youth category. The third round will be held in Romania from May 10 to 12.
Steve Holcombe: "The fight for victory today was incredible. I love racing this way, but yes, the pressure going into that last test was quite high. It felt good to keep it together and get the win. I changed my style a bit today and tried to stay as fluid as possible. I think that helped during the day. I'm now tied for the championship lead, so let's see how Romania goes next month!"
Joseph Garcia: "It was a good, solid weekend for me. Winning EnduroGP and Enduro1 on Saturday was absolutely perfect, as was winning the Super Test on Friday evening. I didn't make too many mistakes on day one and that made the difference. On Sunday I made some mistakes which cost me a chance at victory, but I still finished on the podium in both classes. Just like in the first round, the pace was incredibly high this weekend. Everyone is going so fast and there is no room for error. I feel good on the bike and I'm happy with how I'm riding. I have to maintain this level in the next round."
