Jeffrey Herlings takes his eighth title
In Markelo, Jeffrey Herlings secured his eighth national title at the highest level. The KTM rider finished second behind Romain Febvre during the final of the KNMV Dutch Masters of Motocross 500cc. Calvin Vlaanderen completed the podium at 'Circuit De Herikerberg'. Despite the rain, Motor Club Ons Genoegen has organized the circuit and peripheral matters neatly and we can look back on a successful series of competitions.

The sprint to the first corner seems to be won by Febvre, but Josh Gilbert applies the brakes later and wins the Hoco Parts Holeshot Award. Cas Valk's British teammate heads into the woods as leader, but Febvre quickly puts things in order. At that moment, Herlings gets up because the 29-year-old rider crashed at the exit of the first bend. Flanders comes fourth from the first round behind Gilbert and Freek van der Vlist. The born South African quickly worked his way to second place, but leader Febvre has already disappeared from view! Herlings works his way back to third place very calmly and in a controlled manner. However, after the race he is punished for making too much noise, which means he is not classified third but eighth. Gilbert seems to be winning the battle with Micha Boy de Waal, but in the final phase the GasGas driver is better. Gilbert (Gabriel-SS24) is therefore fourth ahead of Petar Petrov on the JTX-KTM. Boris Blanken sends his Fantic to sixth place ahead of Van der Vlist and therefore Herlings. Rene de Jong (Hannamax Motorsport) and TM driver Nick Leerkes complete the top ten.

Before the start of the second heat it becomes clear that Herlings' penalty will be reversed. The KTM rider therefore enters the final heat with a seven-point lead. Febvre is off to a good start again with Gilbert and Herlings. He gives a push in the first corner and slips inside to the lead. Febvre chases but makes a mistake in the second lap, causing him to lose some places. The Kawasaki rider recovered and managed to cross the finish line in second place, which gave him the victory of the day. This was to the delight of his supporters who wanted to replace the posts next to the circuit with French baguettes to make them feel more comfortable. Flanders now completes the podium. De Waal manages to send his JHMX Service-GasGas across the finish line in fourth place ahead of GP rider Gilbert. He still has to do everything he can in the final phase to get Blanken behind him, but he succeeds just before the sign for the last round goes out. Van der Vlist is seventh ahead of Marcel Conijn (Gebben Motoren), De Jong is again good for ninth place and Joel van Mechelen (Van de Velden Motoren) completes the top ten.
Next time:
The championship is over, now most riders are focusing on the international competitions and perhaps an ADAC competition will follow later in the season.
