Elzinga takes the title by one point
Rick Elzinga started the battle for the KNMV Dutch Masters of Motocross 250cc with only four points behind. The Yamaha rider fought like a lion and managed to regain the title with a first and second place. At “Circuit De Herikerberg” 'Rickert' won ahead of Thibault Benistant (3-1) and Cas Valk (2-3). Despite the rain, Motor Club Ons Genoegen has organized the circuit and peripheral matters neatly and we can look back on a successful series of competitions.

In time training, Benistant is the fastest man on the circuit ahead of Yamaha colleague Elzinga. However, the Frenchman's start is not good and Agard-Michelsen takes the best start with his 2-stroke Yamaha! Elzinga follows ahead of Valk, Werner and Roan Tolsma. In the first corner Kay Karssemakers crashes together with WLM rider Eric van Helvoirt. In the first lap Elzinga takes the lead and Valk also manages to pass the Norwegian fast starter before completing the first lap. Benistant started the race outside the top ten but is quickly working his way up. Fourth place is quickly taken, but catching up with Agard-Michelsen takes more time. Things go up and down at the front, with Elzinga ahead. However, in the final phase it becomes even more exciting because after a maximum lead of almost five seconds, Valk comes back. This still creates tension, but no matter what Valk tries, he cannot gain control. Valk comes second ahead of Benistant who missed the connection with the front riders. Agard-Michelsen takes fourth place ahead of JM Honda Racing rider Werner. Karssemakers comes back very strongly from last place to sixth place, but he has to fight with Hakon Osterhagen. Werner's Norwegian teammate finished seventh ahead of the well-riding debutant Tolsma! Mirco ten Kate and GT Husqvarna rider Robin van Oldeniel complete the top ten.

Valk starts the second and final round with only a one point lead. When the starting gate drops, Osterhagen takes the best start. The Norwegian is followed by Elzinga and his Hutten Metaal Yamaha colleague Benistant and Valk! The Honda rider sees Benistant pass on the second lap and Elzinga follows not much later. Valk tries the same but he makes a mistake and briefly loses fourth place to Karssemakers. The 18-year-old rider from Nijverdal recovered and was able to overtake Osterhagen for third place well into the second half of the race. That is the maximum for the KTM rider who loses the title battle by one point! Osterhagen crosses the finish line fourth ahead of Karssemakers. Agard-Michelsen crosses the finish line in sixth ahead of Damian Wedage, who unfortunately dropped out of the first heat. Werner comes eighth ahead of Van Oldeniel and the Italian Federico Tuani who completes the top ten.
Next time:
The championship is over, now most riders are focusing on the international competitions and perhaps an ADAC competition will follow later in the season.
