The KTM riders about their race in Spain
A busy Spanish Grand Prix on the outskirts of Madrid was the scene of round two in the MXGP and MX2. Red Bull KTM Factory Racing took their first podium of the season. World Champion Andrea Adamo won the second MX2 moto and finished third, while Jeffrey Herlings finished fourth in the MXGP class.
Liam Everts managed to end his return with a neat fifth place in the final standings, a hopeful result after his thumb fracture that he suffered during training in the spring. Sacha Coenen was not entirely satisfied with his races and was able to finish ninth in the final standings.
Jeffrey Herlings: “Pretty OK. I was 5th in the first moto and worked my way up to 3rd and stayed there pretty much the entire time. I challenged the guy in 2nd place but couldn't pass him. An 'OK' start in the second moto and I stayed in 4th place. No excuses. It went better than in Argentina, but still not a great weekend. We took a step in the right direction because we were closer to the leaders than in the first round. We will keep our heads down and look to Sardinia where we can hopefully be on the podium and where a win would be absolutely fantastic.”
Andrea Adamo: “I knew I wasn't ready in Argentina and I was even surprised by my qualifying race there, but today in the second race we saw the results of winter. It was still a tough weekend here, but the feeling came and I had a better start. I'm getting better and I can't wait for the next Grand Prix. I'm not at my best level yet.”
Liam Evert: “Everything was very positive and I felt good all weekend. I didn't know how my hand would feel, but it went well. A good flow and good mojo on Sunday. P4 in the first moto and in the second I got stuck behind another rider and had a little tip-over. I came back to P6 for P5 overall and I'm happy to be back in action.”
Sacha Coenen: “Not a good start in the first moto and it was very difficult to come back. I passed a few times and was in P8, but crashed in the corner near the pit lane. After that I did my best, but I didn't feel great. It was cool to get the holeshot in the second moto, but for some reason I lost the lead after two laps and lost ten places in one corner! Really frustrating. We should have done much better today, but we will keep trying to do better.”
