MX2: Kay de Wolf also triumphs in Spain
With a series victory and a second place, Dutch Negaan Husqvarna rider Kay de Wolf has won the Spanish Grand Prix. De Wolf beat Simon Laengenfelder and reigning world champion Andrea Adamo for the day's rankings.
First series
It was Simon Laengenfelder who took the lead on the first lap on the GasGas machine with Yamaha duo Thibault Benistant and Rick Elzinga in hot pursuit. It was not a perfect start for the Husqvarnas of Kay de Wolf and Lucas Coenen, but they came back relatively quickly to second and third place.
With about ten minutes to go, the Wolf got closer to Laengenfelder and then made a great passing move over the triple to get past the German. De Wolf then took a safe lead while Lucas Coenen and Liam Everts finished in P3 and P4 after the German Laengenfelder. Mikkel Haarup (Triumph) had a solid ride to take fifth ahead of Andrea Adamo.
Second series
It was Sacha Coenen who took the holeshot in this second heat with Andrea Adamo in tow. Kay de Wolf rode a good first lap and quickly put herself in second place. De Wolf then took the lead but Adamo quickly followed him. The Italian world champion then showed his speed by passing De Wolf and taking a very impressive victory.
De Wolf then made a small mistake and took P2 just ahead of Laengenfelder and Lucas Coenen who increased the pressure, but De Wolf remained second and achieved his second overall victory of the early season. Benistant now rode a better race and finished fifth ahead of Everts and the impressive McLellan.
The next race for the World Championship will be held in two weeks on the island of Sardinia and more specifically in Riola Sardo, known for its spring competition.
