Julian Veldman wins the first ONK Quads
After many problems, the starting gate fortunately fell again at 'De Witte Ruijsheuvel' in Oss. The first competition of the KNMV Open Dutch Quad Championship was on the program with Julian Veldman as the big winner. The Kampenaar wins with a third and first place ahead of Ricardo Phoelich (1-3) and Henrik Mogensen (2-5).

In the time training, Richard Ruttenberg is the fastest man ahead of Phoelich and the surprise Mikkel Kurdahl. When the starting gate falls, Phoelich takes the best start ahead of reigning champion Joe Maessen and Mike van Grinsven, who has returned after a long absence. Things immediately get heated at the front, while Mogensen takes over third place from Van Grinsven after two laps. Maessen runs into problems at the front and after about ten minutes of the match he has to leave. Mogensen takes second place, but a little later Manfred Zienecker takes over. The difference with leader Phoelich is about five seconds and the German manages to quickly eliminate this. However, a mistake throws a spanner in the plans of Zienecker, who managed to take the day's victory in Lierop last year. Mogensen comes in second ahead of Veldman, well behind the winner. Third place seemed to go to Ruben van Lith for a long time, but he made a mistake in the last lap. Ruttenberg crosses the finish line fourth ahead of Zander Kristiansen.

When the starting gate goes down for the second round, the Dane Kristiansen takes the best start ahead of Julian Veldman and his brother Sam Veldman! Van Lith comes to a standstill on the first lap and has to work his way to the front of the 38-rider starting field. Phoelich comes fifth from the first round, followed by Maessen. While Julian Veldman attacks the leader, Sam falls further and further back. The eldest Veldman takes over the lead and takes some distance from his pursuer. Phoelich needed some time to work his way into second place, but when he succeeds, the leader's lead is already about ten seconds! It is not a good day for Maessen who loses the pace and then gets into trouble. He returns to Limburg with only six points! Zienecker started the race around tenth place, but he is setting a high pace. The DVR rider manages to make a big impression and with two minutes left on the clock he passes Phoelich for second place! The difference with leader Veldman is more than ten seconds and this cannot be made up in the final phase. Phoelich finishes third this round ahead of Vlaeymans who came thirteenth from the first round. Mogensen completes the top fifth this heat.
This championship will continue on Saturday, March 30, when the points will be distributed on the beautiful Oldebroek circuit.
