The book 'Bart Notten – Sidecar legend with flag and clogs' is out and can now be ordered!
Last Wednesday evening the book 'Bart Notten – Sidecar legend with flag and clogs' was presented in Hengelo. Notten, the first 'world champion' of sidecar cross, was driven into the hall by his pupil Koen Hermans on the sidecar of the Barink Sisters.
The full hall clearly enjoyed this scene, after which Bart himself thanked those present and immediately received laughter when he said that in the past, after a championship party, they also had a sidecar parked here. However, that went a bit wrong, Bart said, because in the euphoria of that party some burn-outs and donuts were made with that sidecar. The marks this caused on the floor would never, ever leave the floor, meaning they had to have it completely replaced later! After this anecdote, the tone was set for a successful evening in which publisher Willy Hermans and author Jaap Oostermann briefly took the floor.
The book about Bart Notten can be ordered through publisher Hermans but also through author Jaap Oostermann via oostermannjaap@gmail.com. The book costs 25 euros and the first 25 people who order the book from Jaap Oostermann will receive an extra personal souvenir.

Author Jaap Oostermann fought hard for the book about Bart Notten and literally shouted it out a year ago; “That book must be published!”
This passion of Oostermann, who previously wrote a book about Broer Dirkx together with the late Jan de With, has ultimately been incorporated into a beautiful piece of reading and viewing. The book was also created by Bart's daughter Renske, who had the idea to make a photo book about her father. The ideas and plans of both were merged.
Oostermann got to work last Wednesday and the book 'Bart Notten – Sidecar legend with flag and clogs' was published.
The more than 200-page book tells in words and images about the life of Bart Notten in sidecar motocross.
Bart's own active career and all championships are extensively highlighted with beautiful and unique photos. The book not only pays attention to Bart as an active participant, but also to the period that began when Bart Notten put his neighbor Koen Hermans on a sidecar. This grew into the 'Kids and Sidecars' foundation, the first platform in the world for youth sidecar motocross. Not only Koen Hermans, but also Justin Keuben, Sam and Julian Veldman, Dion Rietman and Wilfred Vos, for example, come from the Kids and Sidecars nest. In the current international GP field, current French Champions Prunnier and Britt Dan Foden, among others, have made their first marks in the Kids and Sidecars.
The book Bart Notten – Sidecar legend with flag and clogs can be ordered through publisher Hermans, but also directly from author Jaap Oostermann, where the first 25 people will also receive an extra souvenir.
Bart showed us how to do it.
Bart Notten received the Ton van Heugten trophy from Gerda Meijerman. The euvre prize that is awarded every two years on behalf of the still alive Kids and Sidecars foundation to someone who has meant a lot to the sport and the Kids and Sidecars. Bart, as founder, had not yet received the prize himself, but is more than entitled to have the trophy in his hands now.
Promoter Lee van Dam, who arranged a trip with international sidecar crossers to the United States in the 1970s, congratulates Bart on the book. That evening, Bart, Lee, but also many other former riders and bakers shared great stories about that American trip.

The youth has the future! Bart accompanied by fellow townspeople Tim and Gijs Barink and the sisters Tess and Lotte Barink. Both couples come from the Kids and Sidecars nest and will ride the NK (Tim and Gijs) and the Cup (Tess and Lotte) sidecar cross in Oldebroek this weekend and can be admired the day after at the club cross of the Hamove in Hengelo.
