Gyan Doensen is in a class of his own in Lierop
Under a lovely spring sun, Gyan Doensen won the Dutch MX Opener 125cc in Lierop. The Limburger managed to win both heats with a wide lead. Maximillian Ernecker, the big brother of 85cc rider Moritz, came second (3-2) ahead of Kasimir Hindersson (2-3). The Finn was very fast, but a collision with Lotte van Drunen threw a spanner in the Motovation Motorsport rider's life. Jarne Bervoets won the 85cc class in Lierop last year by force majeure, now he finished fourth ahead of Dean Gregoire who has also switched to the 125cc class!
1st heat:
Lynn Valk and Lotte van Drunen make the best starts with their 250F engines. However, they are quickly being overtaken by the youthful crossers. Doensen is the first to emerge from the 'Herselse Bossen', with consequences for Ernecker and Hindersson. The 17-year-old KTM rider was victorious at Hawkstone Park last week and now he is chasing Ernecker. He defends himself well, but Hindersson is faster and takes over second place. Ernecker then drives a lonely race because Gregoire is quite behind. The 13-year-old rider from neighboring Geldrop crosses the finish line in fourth place ahead of Cole McCullough. The Irishman has not had a good start but he is fighting for every spot. He can take over fifth place if Bervoets crashes, but that is also the maximum for the Fantic rider. After his serious knee injury, Douwe Van Mechelen was able to start preparations for the new season a little later. The Belgian sends his SDM-Fantic to sixth place ahead of Jayson van Drunen, whose father Marcel was allowed to climb onto a GP podium in Lierop years ago! Bervoets crosses the finish line in eighth ahead of Freddie Bartlett, Hindersson's teammate, and the Italian Alessandro Gaspari.
2st heat:
Valk and Van Drunen also take the lead towards the first corner in the second round, but in the first lap Doensen puts things in order. The 15-year-old rider from Swalmen clearly feels like a fish in water and he quickly distances himself. Van Drunen comes third in the first round ahead of Hindersson, but they touch each other over the large table mountain. Both fall and have to give chase. Maxime Lucas takes over third place ahead of fellow countryman Bervoets and Dex Kooiker. A small mistake by Lucas causes him to fall to the ground, causing him to lose places. At the front, Doensen has the race under control and Ernecker no longer sees his ranking in danger. Behind it, however, it is quite exciting because Gregoire comes up after a poor start and Hindersson has not yet surrendered in the battle for the podium. With his long legs, Hindersson makes many meters and he manages to catch up with Bervoets. Behind the MJC rider, Aron Katona is fifth. The Hungarian is also part of the KTM Junior plan from this season, and in 2021 he won the 65cc World Championship in Greece. The Swede Bartlett finished sixth ahead of Van Mechelen and Gregoire, who had a brief crash. Lucas, who rides in French service, finishes ninth ahead of Bulgarian Toshev Ventsislav.
Both Valk and Van Drunen did not finish the second heat due to machine problems. As a result, Shana van der Vlist wins the women's race ahead of Sara Andersen and her compatriot Malou Jakobsen.
Next week the KNMV Dutch Nationals start at the Oss circuit.
