Electric machines allowed in Belgian Supermoto Championship
Next weekend, on March 9 and 10, the Belgian Supermoto Championship will start at the Jules Tacheny circuit in Mettet. Electric motorcycles may make their debut in the championship this year. A change has been published in the FMB sports regulations for 2024, allowing electric motorbikes to compete in the S1, S2 or Senior classes. An appendix to the technical regulations of Supermoto (and motocross) has also been published, specifically for electric motorcycles.
Last weekend, test sessions were held in Mettet where the Stark Varg drove alongside combustion engines. The vice-chairman of the BKW Sports Committee, Christian Dejasse, and the technical delegate, Patrick Roels, were also invited by Stark Varg to their factory in Barcelona to discover all the technical details of their machines.
Based on the conclusions of these test sessions, the necessary arrangements have been made for electric machines to make their debut in our national championship. Electric motorcycles with a maximum power of 60hp / 45kW will be admitted to the Supermoto events in Belgium. This will not be the case in the Netherlands for the time being.
