Jett Lawrence appears to be taking control
Jett Lawrence took his fourth win in the Monster Energy AMA Supercross Championship 450SX in the first event at Birmingham's Protective Stadium. The 20-year-old rider managed to win the final ahead of Cooper Webb and Ken Roczen. In the standings, Lawrence is now thirteen points ahead of Webb, Chase Sexton is twenty points behind the leader with eight games to go.
On the very long start to the first corner, Webb seems to take the lead, but Lawrence slips inside in the first corner. The Honda rider takes the lead ahead of Webb and his team colleague Justin Cooper. Despite a crossing Monster Energy girl, the duo stays together for a long time, but Lawrence is no longer surprised. Sexton needs some time to take over third place from Cooper. However, this does not work, with the result that Roczen manages to pass both riders and comes third. The KTM rider struggles with Cooper for fourth place and that is the maximum for Sexton. Eli Tomac started the race outside the top ten and he comes back to sixth place, but in the final phase Jason Anderson is stronger and he finishes sixth ahead of Tomac.
Next week the championship travels to Indianapolis where the points will be split at Lucas Oil Stadium.
