Le Touquet: Mathis Valin wins ahead of Damien Knuiman
The Junior category in Le Touquet had to compete this morning in the loose sand of Paris Plage. It ultimately became a battle between the reigning Junior 125cc World Champion Mathis Valin and the Dutchman Damien Knuiman, with the Frenchman winning the battle. Tom Dukerts was the first Belgian at the finish, finishing in 6th place.
From the start of the one and a half race it was clear that the battle for victory would be between Paolo Maschio, Mathis Valin and Damien Knuiman. Maschio was the first leader but was overtaken by Valin after 10 minutes. Knuiman also joined the wheel and rode second.
Scott Verhoeven finished fifth after one lap, our Belgian Tom Dukerts was 8th at that time. Everyone at the front made small mistakes that were mainly caused by the slower participants.
With 30 minutes to go, Knuiman suddenly passed as the leader, but the party was over just as quickly. After 200 meters he innocently lay down and had to let Valin pass again. At that very moment, Dukerts was in P10 and then pulled out all the stops to move up. Knuiman was 21 seconds behind with ten minutes left and unfortunately could no longer make a fist. Mathis Valin wins the match ahead of Knuiman and Paolo Maschio. Tom Dukerts reached sixth place. Scott Verhoeven finished fifth.
