RST Armor Shirt: airbag vest for off-road
By integrating an airbag system into the lining of its products, RST has contributed to the mainstreaming of motorcycle airbags, both on the track in its one-piece leather suits and on the road with its touring and sports jackets. For 2024, the British brand is once again breaking new ground with the first off-road airbag vest, which uses the innovative In&motion technology.
For recreational enduro, trail and rally riding
The RST Armor Shirt Airbag is a big step forward in safety for off-road motorcycling enthusiasts and demanding adventurers. By designing this vest with off-road properties and an integrated airbag system, RST offers a CE class C equipment with protection level 2, a high level of safety made possible by the integration of the In&Motion wireless airbag technology.
After testing by more than 400 French and American test riders, a new Adventure algorithm is now available to the widest possible audience via the In&Motion smartphone application, and it comes into its own with the Armor Shirt: a dedicated off-road equipment with approved elbow and shoulder protection and an airbag system to increase the level of protection with an intelligent system that activates when necessary, better protecting vital areas during enduro and trail rides.
Easy to use
With its compact size and direct integration into the vest, RST equipment is easy to use. Once the system has been activated by creating a user account, it can be configured via Bluetooth® using a mobile app that brings together all the device information and settings. Once Adventure mode is selected, the system works completely autonomously without further intervention from the user, allowing him or her to concentrate perfectly on driving.
The electronic detection system continuously analyzes movements through its precise sensors and its algorithm (1.000 calculations per second), which is able to detect an irreversible imbalance, anticipate a collision and initiate airbag inflation. Technically, inflation of the internal vest starts after 33 ms as soon as the system detects a dangerous situation, 22 ms later the airbag system is fully operational with a total inflation within just 60 ms after detection.
To use the system and access the service, you must create a user profile. That access is offered in the form of a no-obligation subscription, which means you can pause the service if you don't drive for a certain period of time. In the same way, you can also take out a subscription for on-road use during the months that the vehicle is in use. The monthly subscription costs for the first mode are 12 euros per month or 120 euros per year. For the second mode, another 8 euros per month is added.
By choosing the subscription mode, users enjoy an unlimited warranty on their electronic system and an upgrade of the box every three years to a more recent generation. A technologically advanced mode is also available: Dakar Pro, reserved for professional riders. Not for motocross.
