Gerard Seesing releases his world famous shock absorbers
He was a familiar face in the Dakar rally, world champions ran away with him and a racing sheik also managed to find him. Now Hengelo resident Gerard Seesing (66) is saying goodbye to Reiger, world market leader in the field of shock absorbers. Letting go is not easy: 'You raised this from scratch, this is your child.'
They must cost 300 guilders, a set of new shock absorbers for his dirt bike. That is not an option for Gerard Seesing. It is 1977, he is 19 years old, he cannot pay such a large amount. “Then I'll make them myself,” he says to Bennie Hartelman, owner of the motorcycle shop in Hengelo where he often visits. Hartelman responds with a laugh: “You'll never succeed.”
