Dakar Rally: Brabec wins tenth stage and takes option on final victory
Ricky Brabec won the tenth stage in the Dakar Rally today after a battle for seconds with Jose Cornejo and Adrien Van Beveren. It seems like a coup because it is already the second day in a row that three riders from HRC Honda take the podium.
Brabec won and increased its lead in the rankings to 11 minutes. Ross Branch finished seventh today and lost time again at Brabec but remains second in the standings. With two more stages ahead, Brabec can check and see what happens. We will see whether that is enough to win the Dakar Rally for a second time, because every meter that has to be driven now is a risk.
Daniel Sanders has ridden a solid Dakar so far, but was rarely found at the front. Today, however, he finished fourth in the stage to and from AlUla. Then the Belgians: Jérôme Martiny finished 35th, Joris Van Dyck finished 61st while Pierra Saeys came in 76th. The best performance today was achieved by the Indian Harith Noah. He finished fifth among the big boys with his Sherco.
Tomorrow the penultimate stage is on the menu with a ride from AlUla to Yanbu. A total of 480 km will be driven, of which 107 km will be against the clock. Make no mistake, this stage can still change the rankings a lot because the terrain is rough. It will be the last physical effort for the riders because Friday's last stage is a lot friendlier to body and soul.
