The Van Helvoirt brothers are making a switch
In the coming season, Eric and Sem van Helvoirt will go one step higher together. The people from Brabant will both be riding in a new class for their first full season. Eric says goodbye to the 2-stroke machine, he will compete in the MX2 class. After having already met this year, Sem will compete on the 125cc machine. The calendar will mainly consist of the KNMV Dutch Masters of Motocross and the KNMV Dutch Championship in their class. There are also ADAC MX Masters competitions scheduled for later in the season.
In 2023, the now 14-year-old Sem started in the 85cc class, but later in the year he switched to the 125cc machine. As a result, the brothers took action together during the match in Hummelo. The youngest managed to make a good debut by crossing the finish line in 13th place in the first heat. Eric finished sixth, but later in the afternoon something went wrong on the first bump after the start. The 17-year-old rider crashes and Sem runs over the motorcycle! Sem breaks his arm in this fall, while his big brother has to continue with the damaged machine. The race is completed with a sore body and without a buddy seat. This earned him important points for the ONK125, allowing him to finish the championship in third place.
Halfway through last season, both riders switched to GasGas engines. Ryan de Beus and Kees van Melis are thanked very much for the many years of collaboration with VandeLaarRacing. From the coming season, Axl van de Elzen from Axleration Motorsport will prepare the Austrian engines. The riders will even do work on the engines with the guidance of Axl. These motorcycles are again equipped with Buxur suspension. The collaboration with Maurice van den Broek has been full of satisfaction for many years! As the man from Boekel always says: “Without suspension everything goes to waste”. Last season the riders from Venhorst already competed in WLM clothing. This will also be the case in 2024 and the engines will also be equipped with a WLM design.
The National Championships start on Sunday, March 10 in Oss, and a week later the first KNMV Dutch Masters of Motocross will be held at the Harfsen circuit.
