Everything you need to know about the 2024 Dakar Rally
The mother of all Rallies is undeniably the Dakar Rally. There are now a number of variants of the competition, but the Dakar was first and continues to appeal to the imagination. The 5th edition will start in Saudi Arabia on January 2024, 46.
A new stage format has been created: on the “48H CHRONO STAGE” there is a time limit to stop (16 p.m.) and start again the next day (7 a.m.) to complete the course. As part of the Dakar Future program, the Mission 1000 offers manufacturers the opportunity to test vehicles with innovative technologies on the Dakar site: more than a hundred kilometers per day, with their performance evaluated in a gigantic laboratory.
This year Kevin Benavides won the race in a battle of seconds with teammate Toby Price. A nice observation is that no fewer than four Belgians will be at the start in Alula, where the prologue and the start of the first stage will take place. These are Jérôme Martiny, Joris Van Dyck, Pierre Saeys and Gwen Backx. For Martiny it is already his third participation in the Dakar, he will add an extra dimension this year by completing the race without assistance.
One of the strongest teams seems to be HRC Honda. With their four speed riders Pablo Quintanilla, Ricky Brabec, Skyler Howes and Jose Ignacio Cornejo they compete in the desert of Saudi Arabia.
Other well-known names include Adrien Van Beveren, Luciano Benavides, Sam Sunderland, Daniel Sanders and Rui Gançalves. Mattthias Walkner unfortunately has to forfeit due to a leg injury. In addition to an individual victory, it is of course also the brands that are aiming for final victory. KTM won continuously between 2001 and 2019. After that, Honda (2020 and 2021) and GasGas (2022) were partying. Last year it was bingo again for KTM with Kevin Benavides' victory.
The Dakar Rally starts on January 5, 2024 with a prologue in the 1000-year-old city of Alula and ends on January 19 with the 12th stage in Yanbu.
