The Netherlands wins Sidecarcross of Nations!
Team Netherlands has won the sidecar cross of nations in Cingoli, Italy. Great Britain came second, just behind the Netherlands, with Foden/Humphrey becoming the best individual sidecar with two first place finishes. France also stayed on track and finished third just behind team GB.
Team Netherlands, consisting of Bax/Cermak, Hermans/Van den Bogaart and Keuben/Van der Wiel, started well in the first race. Team Foden/Humpfrey won the heat on behalf of England, but the story of the first heat was the clash that Bax/Cermak had with the Belgian Vanluchene, who had his younger brother Robbie Bax in the box for this sidecar cross of nations. In a duel, Bax/Cermak calmly let the sidecar walk outside, just in front of Vanluchene's who tried to pass Bax. Vanluchene was just unable to brake in time and swerved slightly to the outside, causing the front wheel to buckle in the loose sand and the Vanluchene/Bax combination to flip over sharply! This meant exit team Vanluchene in race one. Ultimately, the entire Belgium team had no chance of a good result because Robbie Bax had to drop out with knee problems and Vanluchene could therefore no longer start. Bax/Cermak came second on behalf of the Netherlands, with Keuben/Van der Wiel coming third. The second race was won by the Lielbardis brothers, who did not get further than fourth place with team Latvia at the end of the day. Behind Lielbardis, Frenchman Auvray, with new World Champion Musset in the sidecar, did well in second place. For the Netherlands, Keuben/Van der Wiel took third place. Hermans dropped out, but one result per country is allowed to be deleted and so everything was looking good in the Dutch camp with the last heat just around the corner. That heat was again won by Foden/Humphrey, who surprisingly managed to win a Grand Prix as an individual team for the first time! Wilkinson/Millard also did well for England in third place. However, the Dutch did what they had to do and took the overall win in the Sidecar Cross of Nations with a second and fourth place. Great Britain, which came just short of the final victory due to a good P8 from Brown in the second heat, finished second. France, with the brothers Prunnier, Auvray and Hammard, deservedly finished third.
