Top six for Kevin Horgmo in Maggiora
Kevin Horgmo finished sixth in both heats during the penultimate race of the MX2 World Championship in Maggiora, Italy. With these results he has risen to sixth place in the standings. In the first moto Horgmo had a strong first lap and worked his way up to sixth place. After ten minutes he took fifth place. Here he managed to hold on for a long time, but because he was hindered by a straggler with only a few hundred meters to go, he lost this position and finished sixth.
In the second moto Horgmo started in seventh place. In the fourth lap he took over sixth place from his teammate Braceras, but not much later he crashed and was knocked back to ninth place. Horgmo recovered well and managed to take sixth place with three laps to go. Horgmo also finished sixth in the daily rankings and this is also his position in the world championship standings. He still has a small chance of fifth place, because with one game to go he is seventeen points behind.
Kevin Horgmo:
“I got a good start twice, but it was difficult to make a difference on this fast track. I felt good in the first moto but it was difficult to overtake. I was fifth going into the last lap but I made the wrong move when passing a straggler and ended up sixth. The track had shifted in many places for the second heat, making it very fast. I felt less comfortable than in the first moto. I had a small crash and lost three places. I managed to come back well. I came here for more but again I showed that I have good speed. I will give everything in Matterley Basin and at the MX of Nations so that I can finish the season strong.”
David Braceras was running a solid eleventh in the first moto until he crashed. Braceras lost three places and finished fourteenth. In the second moto he and his teammate Horgmo were around sixth place and seemed to be seventh. However, a wrong decision in the hustle and bustle cost him a position, leaving him eighth. With these results he finished in eighth place in the daily rankings and remains in seventeenth place in the standings!
David Braceras:
“Today the track was completely different than on Saturday. In the first moto I made a stupid mistake and fell when I was eleventh. In the second moto I got a good start and had a nice battle with Kevin for a long time. I was in seventh place until I made a wrong decision on the last lap and that cost me a position. It was a solid day but I know I can do better. I will do everything I can to finish the season strong in Matterley Basin and the MX of Nations.”
