PR: Kevin Horgmo takes his first GP heat win!
Kevin Horgmo of F&H Kawasaki Racing took his first moto win in his career in the seventeenth round of the MX2 World Championship in Afyonkarahisar, Turkey, and finished second in the Grand Prix. It was a well-deserved success for the team because Horgmo has finished close to a podium position several times this year.
In the first moto Horgmo did not get off to a good start, but quickly managed to work his way back up from eleventh to seventh position. A small crash on the third lap dropped him back to twelfth place, but Horgmo recovered well and managed to work his way back up to sixth place with very fast lap times. Since Horgmo's speed was good, this made him even more motivated for the second heat.
In the second moto he was well at the start and was able to start the race in third place. In the early stages he worked his way up to second place and followed the leader. When he made a mistake in the final phase, Horgmo struck and took the lead in the match. He kept the pace tight until the finish and never relinquished the victory!
With a 6-1 in the heats, Horgmo finished in second place in the daily rankings and is now seventh in the standings, just three points behind the sixth man and fifteen from the fifth man in the championship.
Kevin Horgmo:
“We have worked hard all season for this moment. It should have come much sooner, but small problems seemed to keep turning against us. But we continued to work hard and managed to turn the tide. It's a shame that my parents weren't here this weekend to celebrate this success with me. Normally they are always there. It's a pity that I made that small mistake in the first moto, but in the last few laps I managed to set the fastest lap times. I kept believing in the podium. It's special to win your very first GP round. I rode cleanly and consistently and kept putting pressure on Liam. In the end I was able to take advantage of his mistake."
David Braceras rode a decent first moto in which he crossed the finish line in eighth place. In the second heat he made an overtaking maneuver on the fourth man in the initial phase. Later in the race he had to give up a few places but rode well in seventh place. However, due to a crash he lost five places and was knocked back to twelfth place. He recovered well and eventually managed to cross the finish line in eleventh place, placing him ninth in the overall standings. He remains in seventeenth place in the world championship standings.
David Braceras:
“We continue to improve every weekend but of course I am disappointed with my mistake in the second moto. In the first moto I didn't get a good start, but I managed to pass many riders during the first lap and finished eighth. My gap to the winner has never been so close this year and that's why I knew there was more to come in the second heat. I was in seventh place until I made a stupid mistake. We continue to work hard for Maggiora and England. I would like to congratulate Kevin and the team. They deserve to achieve this success.”
