Van Drunen takes the double in front of his own audience
Not Teresa Mendoza from the Netflix series “Queen of the South” but Lotte van Drunen has claimed the leading role during the Grand Prix of the Netherlands. The Sliedrecht team managed to win both heats with a safe lead in Arnhem. With this she takes her first GP victory and that too in front of her own audience. Daniela Guillen, winner in Riola Sardo earlier this year, is now good for second place ahead of Lynn Valk. Courtney Duncan finishes fourth but remains in the lead in the World Championship.
Van Drunen immediately took the lead in the second heat and could not be traced. Sara Anderson starts well again, but the Danish is quickly overtaken by Guillen. However, the Spaniard must watch how Van Drunen continues to expand her lead. The GasGas driver comes second ahead of Duncan, who seems to finish just outside the top five, but she fights back strongly and comes third after a duel with Valk. The Nijverdal native crosses the finish line in fourth ahead of compatriot Shana van der Vlist, who has worked well back after her injury earlier this year. In the final phase, Britt Jans-Beken was beaten by Kiara Fontanesi, meaning that the Limburg native finished eighth ahead of Danee Gelissen. Amber Simons also scores, now taking five World Cup points.
The final of this championship in Turkey in two weeks. Duncan now has a 16-point lead over Guillen and Van Drunen still has a chance, 23 points behind the New Zealander.
