Vanluchene/Musset win exciting Northern Irish Grand Prix!
Marvin Vanluchene and Nicolas Musset have won the Northern Ireland Sidecar Cross Grand Prix. However, this did not happen easily, especially Bax/Cermak who came second, gave a heavy fight. Hermans/Van den Bogaart finished third overall.
In the first heat, Vanluchene immediately seemed to be heading for a heat win until they got stuck in the mud. The strong performing Lielbardis brothers in second place were suddenly able to join in with Bax/Cermak close behind. Bax was in top form and now suddenly saw his opportunity to first displace the Latvians from second place and in the very last lap even take the lead and win! Vanluchene then came in second in disappointment, ahead of the overjoyed Lielbardis twins who finished third.
In the second heat, Bax/Cermak took the holeshot and the crowd present probably thought the battle would be over, but nothing could be further from the truth. The second-placed Vanluchene had indeed found the real holy fire again and managed to break the in-form Bax this time. Vanluchene rode towards the leader and suddenly took the lead from the inside. Bax tried to keep up but made a small mistake, creating a gap that remained until the finish. Vanluchene became one and Bax two and that was also the case for the daily total. Hermans/Van den Bogaart came in third at a distance and would remain so overall, just ahead of the young Latvians Lielbardis who finished fourth in Northern Ireland.
The next Grand Prix is next weekend in England.
