MX2 Finland: Crucial win Adamo, podium Everts
Jago Geerts' return was not only ended abruptly today in Vantaa, Finland. Because World Cup captain Andrea Adamo also did an excellent job with a resounding double. Liam Everts was allowed on the podium after Adamo and Längenfelder.
The first MX2 race in Finland immediately caused drama. Polesitter Simon Längenfelder catapulted his GasGas to holeshot number 5. Everts, Adamo and Hakon Osterhagen were on the front line. When the latter came up short on a jump, the following Geerts could no longer avoid the fallen Fantic rider.
Jago landed on Osterhagen's motorcycle, fell, unfortunately landed under his motorcycle and hurt his left shoulder. End of practice for the Yamaha leader who left the track with a painful face.
Before the end of the first lap, Adamo took command. Längenfelder tried to answer the World Championship leader, but the Red Bull KTM pilot grabbed hold. A regular Liam Everts crossed the line in third ahead of F&H Kawasaki's Kevin Horgmo. Lucas Coenen had a fall yesterday and hurt his ribs. The Negaan Husqvarna pilot now had to come back from far away but impressed with a successful catch-up race. Thanks to a nice passage on Oriol Oliver, he finally took P5.
Rick Elzinga and Sacha Coenen, 7th and 9th respectively, also made it into the top 10. Prior to this opening series, Geerts had crept to within 10 points of Adamo.
Prestige battle Liamski – Lucas
No Jago Geerts at the start of the second heat. Although we are still waiting for the final verdict on the damage to his left shoulder, a broken collarbone has already been confirmed. Liam Everts immediately stormed into the lead in the restart. For in-form men Oriol Oliver and Simon Längenfelder, who both crashed, the initial phase did not go as hoped.
Everts was able to open a gap on his pursuers, but after seven laps Adamo fought his way to his teammate's rear wheel. Moments later, Adamo easily moved up to P1. The battle for third place between fast starter Elzinga and Lucas Coenen was also fierce. Just before half time, Coenen finally took the measure of Rick.
This did not end the rise of the 16-year-old Husqvarna topper. For laps he seemed to be cutting his teeth on a good Everts. From the background, Längenfelder had already joined in to deal with both Everts and Coenen a few laps before the end. In the very last round, Lucas was finally able to get rid of 'Liamski'. Coenen squeezed everything out of it but finished with a sigh from Längenfelder.
Elzinga was now good for P5, just ahead of a great Sacha Coenen! The lowlanders again scored strongly in the MX2, but the big winner of this Finnish weekend is Andrea Adamo. The 19-year-old Red Bull KTM rookie was only sixth yesterday. However, thanks to two victories and Geerts' bad luck, the Italian is now in pole position for his first MX2 world title.
The injured Geerts is now second on 60 points, the regular Liam Everts is a nice third on 87 points. In two weeks the 15th World Championship round will take place in Uddevalla, Sweden.
