Meager loot for Febvre?
The three consecutive GP victories of Romain Febvre (31) provide a strange feeling. Yes, Febvre and his KX450 are absolutely in top form. Although the impact of those recent successes on the championship is smaller than you would expect…
Due to a serious leg fracture, Febvre's new Kawasaki chapter under the Ice One flag started last season on a low note.
However, the ex-world champion got off to a more than decent start in 2023 with a 4th place in Argentina. In the third GP of the year he reached the podium and in his home GP, Villars sous Ecot, the ex-MXGP world champion took victory again. After missing the Spanish GP due to a concussion and shoulder injury, he bounced back fourteen days later and won his first series victory since Turkey last year.
Sprint king Prado
Since the first GP in Indonesia, “RF3” has gone one step further. Even more, Febvre is the first rider in the premier class to record three overall victories in a row in 2023. Despite that momentum, he is still far behind World Cup leader Prado. The Spaniard still has a lead of 104 points over Romain Febvre.
By earning the newly introduced World Championship points in the qualifying race, “sprint king” Prado remains firmly in the saddle. In the past three GPs, dominated by Febvre, the 18-time GP winner earned 163 points. Prado collected barely 2 points less, 161.
On the other hand, those extra points ensure that every small mistake is punished as much as possible. This principle is evident from the title battle in the MX2 World Championship. The battle is not yet over in the MXGP either, as no fewer than 420 points are at stake in the next 7 GPs. The next executioner? The Heeserbergen in Lommel this weekend!
