Horgmo scores second place in Loket
Kevin Horgmo of F&H Kawasaki Racing finished second in the twelfth round of the MX2 World Championship in Loket, Czech Republic. For Horgmo this is his best moto result of the season so far.
In the qualifying heat on Saturday, Horgmo started in tenth place and quickly managed to work his way up to ninth place. He kept the pace tight and managed to take over eighth place during the race. His lap times were so good that with a better start he could have been in the top three. In the second part of the race he managed to make up several places and finished in fifth place. David Braceras was only able to avoid a major crash at the start, but managed to pass three riders during the first lap and entered the top ten. He managed to hold this position until the middle of the race, but was then passed and finished eleventh. This was a strong performance for Braceras because he was unable to compete for about two months due to a leg injury.
In the first heat on Sunday, Horgmo managed to get a very good start and came out of the first corner in second place. He rode a strong race and despite the heat he caught up with the leader with ten minutes to go. Because the leader was better when passing the stragglers, the gap was opened and Horgmo had to settle for second place. After the start of the second heat, his hopes of a podium finish were all but gone as he came out of the first corner outside the top twenty. He started to make progress and was already in twelfth place by the middle of the race. He persevered and managed to claim ninth place on the penultimate lap. He held this position until the finish and finished fourth in the overall standings. He remains in ninth place in the world championship standings.
Kevin Horgmo:
“I was very happy with my speed today. I got a very good start in the first heat and was able to ride my own lines. I had a good rhythm and was able to stay with Geerts for the entire heat. Unfortunately I was boxed in at the start of the second heat and had to come a long way to finish ninth. I missed the podium by just one place. I would like to thank the team for giving me such a good bike."
David Braceras experienced a lot after the start in the first moto. He was involved in a crash in the fifth corner, losing about twenty seconds. The young Spaniard gave everything he had and managed to come back to sixteenth place. The gap to the previous riders was too big, causing Braceras to cross the finish line in sixteenth place. In the second moto he again showed good speed by taking over eleventh place with three laps to go. This was also the position in which he finished, finishing fifteenth in the overall standings. Despite having missed the last four Grand Prix's, Braceras is in eighteenth place in the world championship standings.
David Braceras:
“In the first moto many riders crashed right in front of me after the start. I tried to avoid them but had to start the race at the back. The riding went well, although I still missed the intensity a bit. In the second moto I found a good rhythm and came back to eleventh place. I was close to the top ten and I'm happy with my lap times because they were the same as those of the leaders in the last ten minutes. I am motivated to continue this. Lommel will be very tough and that is why I am taking today off and then starting to prepare for this match."
