Dean Gregoire finishes the European Championship in sixth place
With a seventh and fifth place, Dean Gregoire finished sixth during the final of the European 85cc Championship in the Czech Republic. The Brabander himself was not satisfied with the starts, but in the past he managed to work his way to the front. The victory in Loket went to the Italian Nicoli Alvisi, who finished eighth last week during the World Cup in Romania.
First heat:
On Saturday morning in timed training, the KTM rider managed to set the thirteenth fastest time. The starting area in Loket is very wide, so that starting point will not cause any problems in the sprint to the first corner. When the starting gate goes down for the first heat over 20 minutes and two laps, Dean doesn't get away very well. He steers into the first left bend in midfield and things immediately get intense. The first full lap is completed in tenth place and a little later the Spaniard passes Izaguirre, but not much later Dean manages to pass him again. After ten minutes of competition, the 12-year-old cross rider comes to the rear wheel of the Swiss Opligger. However, he makes good progress and that makes for a nice duel for seventh place. Opligger, who won the French title last month, seems to have the longest breath, but Dean has a surprise in store. He tries a different line for a few rounds and is successful in the last round. Thanks to this action, Dean crosses the finish line in seventh place.
Second heat:
The start of the second heat is slightly better, but in the first outside corner he is under pressure. With good steering, the Alpinestars-clad crosser immediately made up many places in the first lap. Once again Dean comes together with KTM colleague Opligger and they both work their way to the front. The Swiss seems to finish fifth ahead of Dean, but in their match they make up for the deficit to fourth man Izaguirre. The last lap then causes a lot of tension for the Voss KTM Racing Team. Opligger manages to take over fourth place in the last lap and Dean also passes, crossing the finish line in fifth place. With this result, the Brabander becomes sixth in the rankings with the same number of points as fifth man Opligger
Next time:
On August 5-6, Dean will be behind the starting gate again, when the ADAC MX Masters Junior Cup 85cc will continue in Gaildorf. After two games, Dean is in third place in the standings, just five points behind second man Aron Katona.
