Amber Simons the strongest in Berghem
Amber Simons won the competition in the women's class in Berghem last Sunday. With a second and first place in the heats, she did well in the championship, partly due to a fall by Britt van der Werff, and reduced her deficit to 43 points. Second place was with a sixth and second place in the heats for Kaylee van Dam. Lynn Kelders was able to take her place on the lowest step of the podium with a fifth and third place in the heats. Maureen Zweers fell just outside the podium with fourth and fifth place in the heats. Yanti Maebe completed the top five.
First heat
Britt Jans-beken took the holeshot ahead of Simons, Britt van der Werff, Zweers and Kelders. Jans-beken did what was expected of her and was supreme. She won the heat with a lead of more than fifty seconds. Behind that, Simons had to leave second place in the second round to Van der Werff. However, Simons managed to stay close for almost the entire heat and three laps before the checkered flag fell she again passed Van der Werff to finish the heat in second. In the battle for fourth place, Zweers held out against Kelders and Van Dam. She was last on the same lap as Jans-Beken and finished six seconds ahead of Kelders. Van Dam followed again eight seconds behind in sixth.
Second heat
The second heat was turbulent. It was Simons who had the holeshot ahead of Van der Werff, Otten van Brenk and Van Dam. Van Brenk quickly fell back and on the next lap Van Dam came through in fourth ahead of an oncoming Jans-Beken, who had fallen at the start. In the second round Simons had a nice lead over Van der Werff. Jans-Beken now followed ahead of Otten and Van Dam. However, then things went wrong for Jans-Beken. Her front wheel got stuck in the sand of an embankment in a bend and she fell hard. This resulted in a red flag so that she could be removed safely.
At the restart of the heat it was again Simons who was the best ahead of Zweers and Van Dam. Now things went wrong at the start for Van der Werff and Otten. Both fell. Otten left the match with a painful elbow. Van der Werff eventually continued her way, but was already more than one lap behind. Zweers crashed on the second lap and fell to sixth place. Simons was already well ahead of van Dam. Behind this was Kelders, Maebe, Daniëlle van Kempen, Sarah Bergsma and Zweers. There were no more position changes at the front and the differences only increased. Simons won the round ahead of Van Dam, Kelders and Maebe. Zweers managed to get past Sarah Bergsma and Van Kempen and saw the checkered flag in fifth place.
