Adamo impresses, bad luck for Geerts
The first MX2 race in Finland immediately caused drama. Polesitter Simon Längenfelder catapulted his GasGas to holeshot number 5. Everts, Adamo and Hakon Osterhagen were on the front line. When the latter came up short on a jump, the following Geerts could no longer avoid the fallen Fantic rider.
Jago landed on Osterhagen's motorcycle, fell, unfortunately landed under his motorcycle and hurt his left shoulder. End of practice for the Yamaha leader who left the track with a painful face.
Before the end of the first lap, Adamo took command. Längenfelder tried to answer the World Championship leader, but the Red Bull KTM pilot grabbed hold. A regular Liam Everts crossed the line in third ahead of F&H Kawasaki's Kevin Horgmo. Lucas Coenen had a fall yesterday and hurt his ribs. The Negaan Husqvarna pilot now had to come back from far away but impressed with a successful catch-up race. Thanks to a nice passage on Oriol Oliver, he finally took P5.
Rick Elzinga and Sacha Coenen, 7th and 9th respectively, also made it into the top 10. Prior to this opening series, Geerts had crept to within 10 points of Adamo. That gap has now increased to 35 points. It also remains to be seen whether 'The Jag' can still start in the second round. The decisive second series in Vantaa starts at 14:10 PM.
