Bax/Cermak win Grand Prix in Poland
Etienne Bax/Ondrej Cermak managed to win the Grand Prix in Poland. Vanluchene/Musset finished second and Hermans/Van den Bogaart, despite an unlucky day, still finished third. Vanluchene/Musset remain the leader in the World Cup sidecars on the way to their home GP in Lommel.
In the first heat there was the holeshot for Vanluchene and he did not give away this position. Vandaele was second for a long time, but Bax/Cermak took that position and brought it to the finish. Sanders/Rostingt did well in the first heat and came third. Hermans/Van den Bogaart, who came to a standstill in the initial phase and had to come back from the back, then finished fourth. Wilkinson took fifth place ahead of Van Werven with occasional player Kunnas at his side on sixth.
In the second heat Bax/Cermak took the holeshot and did not give it away. With first place at the finish in the second heat, they also won the Polish Grand Prix. Hermans/Van den Bogaart came in second but were penalized after the race with two places back. They had overtaken a straggler under the yellow flag and so the jury's verdict was that they went from second to fourth place in the results. This was grist to the mill for Vanluchene who finished second in this heat and in the Polish Grand Prix overall. Prumer/Steegmans saw their fourth place change to third on the official results, but this was not enough for the podium. This still went to Hermans/Van den Bogaart who, despite all the vicissitudes, ended up on the final podium at the end of the day in Gdansk with fourth place in heat two and third place in total.
All sidecar teams must be present again next weekend when the home Grand Prix of World Championship leader Vanluchene is held in the heavy sand of Lommel.
