Ivano van Erp wins the first heat in Kegums
At the Motocenter Zelta Zirgs, Ivano van Erp won the first heat during the fifth race of the European 250cc Championship. The Yamaha rider finished second behind Marc-Antoine Rossi but was penalized ten places by race officials for ignoring the yellow flag. Van Erp therefore wins in Kegums ahead of Hutten Metaal Yamaha colleague Andrea Bonacorsi and Kay Karssemakers. Karlis Alberts Reisulis and Ferruccio Zanchi completed the top five.
Cas Valk, the winner of the previous competition, had to settle for tenth place. Wesly Dieudonne managed to score in seventeenth place ahead of Jens Walvoort. Unfortunately, there were no points for Nicolas Vennekens (31st) during this first round.
