Amber Simons very strong in Wanssum
Last Sunday another match was scheduled for the women's class at Sportpark De Meulebéék. Championship leader Britt van der Werff was absent this time. On the other hand, there was the presence of Britt Jans-Beken. However, she did participate outside the competition. With great force majeure it was Amber Simons who managed to win the day. After finishing second behind Jans-Beken, she won the second heat. Jans-Beken won the first moto, but crashed at the start in the second moto. After this, she did not progress further than second place in the second heat. With two third place finishes, Kaylee van Dam achieved third place in the daily rankings. Lynn Kelders achieved sixth and fourth place in the heats and finished fourth in the daily rankings. Because Jans-Beken was out of competition, she was still able to take the podium of honor. Millie Welters completed the top five of the day.
First heat
It was Simons who took the holeshot ahead of Jans-Beken, Kelders, Van Dam and Demy van Brenk. As expected, it was soon Jans-Beken who took over the leading position. Things went wrong for Kelders in the second round. She lost her motorcycle just before she crossed the dike into the field and fell spectacularly. As a result, it was Maureen Zweers who now came through in fifth place and she would soon pass van Brenk to take over fourth place. After this, nothing changed in the positions for a long time. Simons' strong riding was remarkable. She still managed to stay close to Jans-Beken for a few laps. Halfway through the heat the battle at the front was finally decided. Jans-Beken had now shaken off Simons and Simons and Van Dam were safely in second and third place. Behind this, the battle for place 4 was between Zweers, Van Brenk, Welters and Sandra Otten. The first to drop out was Otten, but instead it was Kelders who fought back. Zweers broke away and finished fourth behind Jans-Beken, Simons and Van Dam. Van Brenk had to leave a gap to Welters and saw Kelders pass him two laps before the checkered flag fell. Kelders closed the gap with Welters, but she fell just a fraction short on the finish line. Welters finished fifth ahead of Kelders.
Second heat
It was again Simons who had the best start. Jans-Beken had crashed in the second corner. Jans-Beken soon rose to fourth place behind Welters and Van Dam and was followed again by Otten. Before Jans-Beken arrived in second place, Simons had already flown. Welters had now fallen back to fifth place and it was Kelders who had entered the top five at the expense of Otten and finished fourth. Simons continued to ride very well and won the heat ahead of Jans-Beken. Van Dam maintained himself well behind in third. Kelders was well behind Welters and saw the checkered flag in fourth.
