Dutch ladies reign supreme at first IMBA
The first match of the IMBA ladies took place last Sunday in Deurne, Netherlands. Unfortunately, the conclusion can be drawn that, apart from the Dutch ladies, the participation of the rest of the teams was very poor. Belgium, together with the Netherlands, is often one of the countries with a large group of female drivers, but with the participation of Anaïs Nowakowski, Joy Couvreur and Fynia Messiant, the neighbors were moderately represented. Germany was also represented by three drivers. One rider per country had traveled from Switzerland, France and Denmark and Great Britain was not represented at all. Whatever the cause of all this, it is clear that this certainly does not benefit from the battle in this class. We can hope that this will change in the future.
The heats generally had an even course. Britt van der Werff and Amber Simons were by far the strongest riders and battled for heat victories and the championship lead. Van der Werff ultimately won all three heats. This was certainly not possible without a combative Simons who, despite riding well, had to make do with second place three times. Far behind, it was Kaylee van Dam who was “the best of the rest” with three third place finishes. Cynthia Swets was far behind, finishing fourth three times. Mille Welters ensured that the top five became completely Dutch with twice a fifth and a seventh place in the heats. Best non-Dutch was the German Annika Erpeka with sixth place in the daily rankings. Anaïs Nowakowski was the best Belgian. Nowakowski continued to improve during the day and with a ninth, sixth and fifth place in the heats she became seventh in the overall standings. Joy Couvreur eventually finished eleventh and Fynia Messiant injured her foot in the first moto and did not participate again after that.
