Heat victory and podium spot for Gregoire
In a muddy Slagelse, Dean Gregoire managed to score well during the second race of the European Championship 85cc Central Europe. The Brabander finished third and first during the heats, putting him second in the overall standings. The victory went to Dani Heitink (1-2), who also won the match in Lommel last week.
First heat:
On Saturday Dean was fastest in the free practice and the time practice. Later in the afternoon he manages to win the qualifying race and that is why the 12-year-old rider can be the first to the starting gate for both heats on Sunday. The start of the first moto is good and the KTM rider takes the lead. The student rides a strong race and his pursuers can only watch. However, things went wrong in the last round, resulting in a crash. The rider from Geldrop crashes and loses the lead, after which he manages to cross the finish line in third place.
Second heat:
Later in the afternoon Dean has another good start and quickly takes the lead. He then controls the match while Heitink follows at a safe distance. The duo distance themselves from the pursuers, but there is no duel for the lead. Dean is not surprised now and he wins the second heat with a lead of more than two seconds. In the daily rankings the Alpinestars-clad crosser comes second, in the standings he occupies third place, two points behind second place.
The EMX85 will continue in Germany in two weeks, the next race for Dean will be held at the Markelo circuit. The second race of the KNMV Dutch Masters of Motocross will be held there on April 23.
