On the way to a podium place
The first race of the KNMV Dutch Masters of Motocross turned out differently than Dean Gregoire expected. The 12-year-old rider had a heavy crash in the first heat, only to disappear from the race for good shortly afterwards. Later in the afternoon the student showed character by scoring a hard-fought third place. Despite remaining scoreless in the first round, the VOSS KTM Racing rider occupies eighth place in the standings. Dani Heitink won the competition in the very well-attended Harfsen.
When the starting gate for the first heat drops, Dean's SX85 climbs into the chain and they sprint together to the first corner. Beautiful on the inside, the Alpinestars-clad crosser applies the brakes ultra late and takes the lead. A little later Jarne Bervoets passes by, but Dean gives chase. However, in the second laps things went wrong with the rider from Geldrop who crashed hard just in front of the VIP tent. Fortunately, the Voss Motoren rider can continue, but he drops to eighth place. Not much later, however, the machine stops and the match ends prematurely.
The start of the second moto is also good and Dean seems to come out of the first left corner in third place. However, he slips and is the last to leave the starting area. Then the beast emerges because the first round is completed fourteenth! The audience clearly enjoys the KTM rider who rides forward like a hot knife through butter. The result is particularly good because Dean crosses the finish line in third place, which puts him eighth in the overall standings, just four points behind fifth.
The KNMV Dutch Masters will continue on April 23 at the Markelo circuit. Next weekend the KNMV Open Dutch Championship will start at the Boekel circuit.
