Kay de Wolf starts DMoMX with victory
With a second and first place, Kay de Wolf won the first competition of the KNMV Dutch Masters of Motocoss 250cc. The 18-year-old motocross rider won at the Harfsen circuit ahead of Rick Elzinga (1-2) and Roan van de Moosdijk.
In the first round, Elzinga takes the best start ahead of former teammate Andrea Bonacorsi, Van de Moosdijk, Jens Walvoort and Maxime Grau. On the first lap, Van de Moosdijk sends his Husqvarna into the leading position, followed by SB KTM rider Walvoort and Kay Karssemakers. However, the rider from Boxtel receives a blow, causing him to fall in the second round. De Wolf came out of the first round in ninth place, but a little later he took third place behind Van de Moosdijk and Elzinga. The Eindhoven native has a firm lead in the first half of the match, but a mistake just after the indication space causes him to lose the lead. Elzinga takes the lead and De Wolf follows the reigning champion at an appropriate distance. Due to a second mistake, Van de Moosdijk lost the connection and finished third. In the last lap De Wolf seems to want to bet on the lead, but that doesn't work. Elzinga wins ahead of De Wolf and Van de Moosdijk. Bonacorsi rides a lonely race, the Italian finishes fourth ahead of Hutten Metaal Yamaha rider Karlis Reisulis.
De Wolf takes the best start in the second round and the Red Bull-supported rider is followed by Elzinga and Van de Moosdijk, Bonacorsi and Karssemakers. Nothing changes in the top four, although Bonacorsi comes even closer to Van de Moosdijk later in the race. Due to a small slide, he lost connection with the leading duo. De Wolf wins the second round ahead of Elzinga and Van de Moosdijk. Bonacorsi manages to finish fourth again ahead of Ivano van Erp. The reigning 125cc Junior World Champion had a problem in the first heat. The Ossenaar crashed at the start and had to catch up. The second heat went much better before Van Erp was able to take fifth place from Karssemakers after four laps.
That our sport is still alive became clear in Harfsen where the HAMAC had the greatest difficulty in getting all the people to park. There were rows of things next to the circuit and that of course bodes well for the coming competitions on circuits that are also well attended!
The KNMV Dutch Masters of Motocross continues on March 23. Then the series will be a guest at the Markelo circuit.
