Sacha Coenen signs with Red Bull KTM Factory Racing
The almost sixteen-year-old talented motocross rider will join Andrea Adamo and Liam Everts on the KTM 250 SX-Fs next season, after impressing with his natural speed and committed attitude in the European Championship in 2022.
Coenen and his twin brother Lucas will compete in the MXGP for the first time next year. Sacha has been recruited by the orange crew and will use 2023 to develop his skills and physique at the highest level. He will work with fellow countryman and former multiple world champion Joel Smets to guide his development. Smets guided two-time MX2 world champion Tom Vialle from EMX aspirant to two titles in just four seasons.
Coenen will also be able to count on the experience of the new Red Bull KTM Factory Racing Team Manager Tony Cairoli. Jeffrey Herlings is the only competitor in the MXGP class with the KTM 450 SX-F. KTM's newest star was a moto winner in the EMX2021 series in 125 and took points in EMX2022 races in 250 while still waiting for his fifteenth birthday. Brother Lucas was previously incorporated into the Negaan Husqvarna Team.
Sacha Coenen: “This is a dream come true for me! I'm so happy to be joining Red Bull KTM Factory Racing. I've been riding the stock 2023 KTM 250 SX-F and absolutely love it so far. I'm looking forward to working with Joël because I'm sure he can bring things to my program that I don't have. I know I still have a lot to learn, but I want to have fun and do the best I can.”
Joel Smets: “It's almost insane how much energy and motivation Sacha has, and right now he's the smaller of the twins! I don't think I've ever seen so much determination and dedication for someone so young. He still has to grow physically and professionally and we have to work on the balance between his desire and his capabilities. It will be a big challenge to channel all that energy…but we are really looking forward to it.”
