PHOTO: successful entry day at the Keiheuvel in Balen
Traditionally, just before the motocross in Balen, there is an introduction day for local youth. Yesterday they came en masse to the Keiheuvel to experience motorsport for the first time.
For almost 20 years, KMC Mol has also been inviting local youth to the beautiful sand dunes a few days before. Are they trying to find a new Eric Geboers, Dirk Geukens, Peter Iven, Brent Van Doninck or Jago Geerts? No, absolutely not. They mainly try to give these children a pleasant (motor) sports day. Under the guidance of a number of very experienced initiators, they are introduced to the wonderful sport that is motocross. They ride on a mini motorcycle and spin a few laps as passengers on a sidecar motorcycle. They explore the Keiheuvel on a mountain bike, ride in an army jeep, etc.
But we don't just welcome the youth with open arms. We also try to provide a number of disabled people and their supervisors with a pleasant day in the healthy Balense outdoors. They can also ride in the army jeep or climb into the sidecar as a passenger. A covered wagon ride, a tug-of-war competition, etc.
And a bowl of healthy sports nutrition for everyone in the afternoon. Good fries, with a dollop of mayonnaise and a good cervela or curry sausage. To prove that the sporty is the most important.
If there is one among the youth who wants to become a motocross racer, so much the better. We especially hope that they return home healthy, happy and satisfied in the evening. That they tell mom, dad, family, friends and acquaintances how much fun it was. And that they would also like to see those real crossers at work on August 14 and 15. This year, and hopefully in the years to come. After all, our classic will be 2023 years old in 100. We would like to add even more to that. That is not possible without crossers between the fence, but the people standing around are just as important for our 'family' cross. And you have to 'cultivate' that family.
