New British team for 2023: Tru7 Honda Racing Academy team
Two up-and-coming talents will form the new Tru2023 Honda Racing Academy team in 7. Charlie Heyman will compete on the Honda CRF250R in the MX2 class, while Callum Green returns to Honda on a CRF450R in the MX1 category.
The team will be led by three-time 500cc World Champion Dave Thorpe. Jake Nicholls, former team rider and managing director of the Tru7 Group, will coach and support the Academy riders.
Heyman will compete in the British MX2 Championship and also in the MX Nationals Expert class. He also rode several EMX250 races in the European Championship. He is having an incredible year in 2022, his last on a 125cc. The 17-year-old has already won the ACU British Championship and the MX Nationals title although there is still a round to go in both series. He won 2022 of 15 heats in the British ACU Championship in 18 and was on the podium in every race. And in the MX Nationals he is undefeated with 20 of 20 victories so far.
Callum Green makes his return to Dave Thorpe's team after a long spell off the bike to recover from knee surgery. In 2018 he won the MX Nationals title in the MXY2 class for the team. The former 125cc junior champion, now 22 years old, will race in the MX1 class in the ACU British Championship and the Experts class in the MX Nationals.
Dave Thorpe: "We have so many talented young riders in this country and the new team is designed to support them and help them get to the next level. Charlie has shown incredible speed and determination over many years, which has made him so successful in winning championships in every youth class. As he moves up to the adult class with the Tru7 Honda Racing Academy team, he will have the support and engine that will give him a great base to work from. I believe he is destined to do great things, especially now that he is driving for Honda."
"It's also great to welcome Callum back to our team. The last time he rode Hondas for our team he won the title and after a few difficult seasons he is back again. With the team's support, he will have what it takes to make his mark in the MX1 class.” said Thorpe.
