Antonio Cairoli on his fifth place in Thunder Valley
The third AMA National was held last weekend in Thunder Valley, Lakewood. With a fourth and fifth place in the series, the Sicilian is increasingly gaining momentum in the US.
The nine-time world champion continues to develop throughout the season with his best performance to date. Cairoli claimed the holeshot in the first heat and was able to hold off a strong driving Ken Roczen for a long time. In the first half of the race he remained in the top five and crossed the finish line in fifth place. In the second moto Cairoli took another holeshot. He held on for a strong fourth place to ultimately finish just shy of his first podium finish in the US Championship.
Antonio Cairoli: “I'm really satisfied with the race. Of course I know that my fitness is not sufficient to follow all those guys at the front. They are better prepared for racing and winning this championship. I started training for this championship very late. I had a bit of trouble today due to the altitude of Thunder Valley. We already have a big improvement from the first round of the AMA Nationals, so I think we are on the right track. Let's work from here and see where it takes us next week.”
