Romain Febvre crosses the pain threshold
Romain Febvre successfully rode his factory Kawasaki twice last week. He did this on the motocross track in Lommel. The 2021 vice world champion will continue his recovery with the full support of the Kawasaki Racing Team MXGP.
Four weeks after the renewed operation to place a bone graft in his right leg, Romain Febvre had another appointment with his surgeon on Tuesday and underwent several medical examinations to evaluate the situation. “Of course I wish it would go faster, but the healing process is normal; the bone graft looks good, even though it will take some time before the bone is finally strengthened,” explained Romain, who made some short test sessions on his motorcycle last week for this final visit to his surgeon.
Romain Febvre: “We actually wanted to know how sore my leg was while riding, and also how my leg felt a few hours after a training session. They weren't long sessions, but they were enough for me to evaluate the pain and for my doctor to understand how my body had responded. My doctor told me that the pain level will guide me and that I should determine the frequency and intensity of the motorcycle workouts. At this point, the plan is to progress step by step and determine the evolution. It is still too early to set a date when I can race again, time will tell.”
Febvre is of course impatient to appear at the start again alongside his teammate Ben Watson. He rode an impressive second round in Maggiora in which he took the holeshot and finished fourth. Watson will compete this weekend in Riola Sardo (Sardinia) for the eighth round of the FIM MXGP Motocross World Championship.
Antti Pyrhonen (KRT team manager): “We are very happy that Romain has reached the next stage in his recovery and can start riding! We have all been waiting for this moment and we look forward to continuing to work together on the track, but we will do this carefully and step by step. And we are convinced that it will also help Ben to have Romain by his side during training.”
