Forkner wins while Jett Lawrence takes the title
With one race to go, Jett Lawrence is already assured of the title in the Monster Energy AMA Supercross Championship 250SX East Coast. In Foxborough, the Honda rider finished second behind Austin Forkner, meaning the Australian is assured of the title. Next to Forkner and Lawrence, Pierce Brown stood on the podium, the GasGas rider seemed to be able to celebrate his first victory, but in the final phase he had to bow to the main players.
At Gillette Stadium, Cullin Park gets the best start for Brown, Jordon Smith, Joshua Varize and RJ Hampshire. The latter managed to qualify for the final through the last chance and he is the only rider who can keep Lawrence from the title. The same Lawrence did not start the final well, the 18-year-old rider comes out of the first corner in eleventh place. In the second laps Brown takes the lead from Park who then falls further back into the violence. Lawrence has now entered the top five, while Hampshire takes second place, five seconds behind the leader. With ten minutes to go, Lawrence takes fourth place from Park and looks into Forkner's back. The pressure on leader Brown is increasing because Hampshire has completely eliminated its deficit. With less than five minutes left on the clock, leader Brown makes a mistake and Hampshire hits his predecessor and goes down. Lawrence follows Forkner but he seems to speed up to disrupt Brown's party. With success because three laps before the end Forkner takes the lead and he wins ahead of Lawrence who still has a strong final phase. Brown is third ahead of Mitchell Oldenburg and Kyle Chisholm.
Next week the West Coast continues in Denver and a week later the grand finale is in Salt Lake City
