Bax/Cermak win with red flagged 2nd heat in Markelo
Bax/Cermak also won the 2nd round in Markelo and thus the Dutch GP. Varik/Kunnas came second and Wilkinson/Millard third. This is immediately the top three in the daily results. The heat was stopped in the 18th minute by a red flag after Van Werven/Van den Boogaart crashed hard.
Bax/Cermak were again the fastest away, with Veldman right behind. When entering the first tight bend, things went wrong for Veldman who braked into Bax and Vanluchene also got stuck due to this traffic jam. Both title contenders were only able to continue the heat at the very end. Vanluchene/Bax also had problems with the steering wheel a little later and had to go into the pits. As a result, the vice world champions ultimately finished scoreless. Veldman/Janssens eventually scored tenth place after just under 20 minutes. Keuben/Lebraton came out second in the first round, but during the heat they had to pass Varik/Kunnas and Wilkinson/Millarsd. Bax/Cermak were already very far away and could no longer be taken for first place. Keuben/Lebraton now found themselves in a battle with Sanders/Rostingt and Van Werven/Van den Boogaart. However, in the 18th minute things went completely wrong for Van Werven. At the first large ramp onto the field, the combination pulled crookedly in the air and upon landing the rider and driver were thrown from the sidecar. The bouncing sidecar then unfortunately landed on top of rider Gert van Werven. The battered Van Werven remained in the middle of the track and the FIM acted decisively and immediately flagged the heat with the red flag. Van Werven, who was fortunately conscious, was taken away with as yet unknown injuries.
Because more than half of the riding time had passed, the heat was not restarted. Bax/Cermak were first, Varik/Kunnas second and Wilkinson/Millard third. This was also the daily result of the Sidecar Grand Prix of the Netherlands.
