Bax on pole, Hermans crashes out of the GP!
Bax/Cermak are on pole for tomorrow's GP Sidecars in Markelo by winning the qualifying heat group A. Vanluchene/Bax can compete second after winning group B. Hermans/Musset crashed out of pre-qualifying and were no longer allowed to start and will not participate in the GP Sidecars in Markelo.
Even before the qualifying heats, there was consternation when Hermans ended up next to a table mountain in pre-qualifying and crashed so hard. Miraculously, no audience was affected. Hermans woke up in the first aid tent but did not have to go to the hospital for photos or the like. There was a lot of surprise later when Hermans/Musset entered the parc-ferme for qualifying but were suddenly stopped when entering the track. Hermans had apparently suddenly been banned from starting and visibly walked towards the paddock very frustrated and angry. So no Hermans/Musset in the Dutch GP!
In group A, Bax/Cermak took the lead ahead of Veldman/Janssens. Team Bax came closer to Veldman in the middle of the race, but was never really threatened. Bax won ahead of Veldman and Wilkinson came in a distant third.
In group B, Vanluchene quickly took the lead after Keuben took the holeshot. Keuben/Lebraton in second place then started working hard with Van Werven and the Swiss Heinzer who also came to report. Very exciting laps and battles followed with Van Werven ultimately finishing second. Keuben/Lebraton then finished third and unfortunately Heinzer dropped out of the heat due to bad luck.
Heinzer therefore entered the last chance in which seven combinations registered for the last six GP spots. At the same time the news came that the qualified Sam Veldman and Sten v.d. Heuij unfortunately had to withdraw due to an injury at V.d. Hey. This made the last chance a waste because the latter will still take Veldman/Van den Heuij's place as the first reserve in this session.
