Anderson nibbles at Tomac's lead
It's only three points, but Jason Anderson has reduced his gap to Eli Tomac. The Kawasaki rider managed to take victory in Atlanta ahead of Tomac and Chase Sexton. With three races to go, the Yamaha rider has a 53-point lead over Anderson. Justin Barcia is third, 68 points behind the leader.
In the final, Barcia gets the best start ahead of Sexton, Anderson, Tomac and Cooper Webb, who is back in the field after a weekend of rest. Marvin Musquin gets into trouble in the tunnel and last week's winner falls. Moments later, Tomac made a mistake, causing Webb to take over fourth place.
The battle for the lead begins as Sexton piles the pressure on Barcia. The GasGas rider naturally defended, but Sexton took the lead and moments later Anderson also passed the quick starter.
After almost five minutes, leader Sexton makes a mistake and Anderson doesn't think twice. The Kawasaki rider takes over the lead and will not relinquish it. Tomac comes back to second place, Sexton can still climb onto the podium. The Honda rider comes back from sixth place and is third ahead of Webb and Malcolm Stewart.
The championship continues next week in Foxborough, followed by matches in Denver and the final in Salt Lake City.
