Eli Tomac takes his first Yamaha victory
Without winning a race, Eli Tomac managed to take the lead in the Monster Energy AMA Supercross Championship. The American won the fourth race of the season with the “Redplate”. The Yamaha rider won ahead of Jason Anderson and Chase Sexton.
The second final of the season at Angel Stadium of Anaheim will see Ken Roczen take home the holeshot award. Shane McElrath enters the first corner as the leader, but the KTM rider goes wide and sees the German take the lead. Malcolm Stewart follows ahead of Anderson, Marvin Musquin, Tomac and Justin Bogle, who has qualified for the final via the last chance! Roczen tries to gain distance and manages to build up a lead of almost 2 seconds over Stewart. Then Anderson takes over second place and quickly manages to catch up with the leader. In the loose sand, Roczen chooses the outside and Anderson dives into the inside bend. There both gentlemen hit each other and the Honda rider falls.
This puts Tomac in second place and he immediately puts the pressure on Anderson! This makes for a nice race with Sexton just two seconds behind the duo in the lead. Then Anderson makes a mistake that forces him to brake to avoid a fall and Tomac doesn't hesitate. The 29-year-old rider takes over the lead and will not relinquish it. The first victory of the season is a fact. Anderson comes in second ahead of Sexton. Ferrandis takes a neat fourth place ahead of Stewart. Max Anstie crosses the finish line in eleventh and Roczen loses points again by only finishing thirteenth.
The championship continues next week in Glendale, so after four games this circus will leave California.
