Christian Craig takes power with third victory
Last week in San Diego things went wrong after a crash in the first corner. In Anaheim, Christian Craig bounced back by winning round four of the Monster Energy AMA Supercross Championship 250SX West Coast. The Yamaha rider wins ahead of quick starter Michael Mosiman and Hunter Lawrence. After three victories, Craig has an eleven-point lead over the Australian.
In the final, Vince Friese seems to get the best start, but Mosiman slips through and takes the Holeshot Award. Friese comes out of the first corner with more speed and takes the lead ahead of Mosiman, Jo Shimoda, Craig and Jalek Swoll. The leader in the standings slips past Shimoda and the Kawasaki rider then sees Swoll and Lawrence pass. However, the Japanese quickly comes back and takes over third place from Craig before the start of the first lap!
Mosiman knows he shouldn't lose too much time behind Friese, so the GasGas rider quickly attacks and takes the lead on the first full lap. Craig can quickly pass both Shimoda and Friese, so the 30-year-old rider never loses sight of the leader. Mosiman managed to hold on to the lead for more than ten minutes despite the pressure from behind. Then in the loose sand the leader makes a mistake and Craig immediately takes over the lead. Mosiman tries to regain the lead twice more but without success. Craig wins his third of the season ahead of Mosiman and Lawrence. With two laps to go, Friese makes a mistake on the whoops, causing him to fall and taking Shimoda with him. This puts Nate Thrasher in fourth ahead of Swoll.
The championship continues next week in Glendale, so after four games this circus will leave California.
