Dakar: Joaquim Rodrigues takes victory on day three
The third stage of the Dakar Rally once again produced a new winner. The Portuguese Joaquim Rodrigues won ahead of Toby Price and Mason Klein.
Rodrigues thus gave the Indian motorcycle manufacturer Hero a first victory. Strategy was the key word for Daniel Sanders today. He was the fastest at the first three intermediate points but then kept a low profile so as not to have to start first tomorrow. Sam Sunderland remains leader in the general classification, but sees Adrien Van Beveren approaching within four seconds.
Newcomer Danilo Petrucci was able to hold his own well in the stage today. He finished 22ndth but is at the bottom of the rankings due to a hefty penalty time. It was another solid day for the four Belgians. Jérôme Martiny was 43th place the best lowlander. A 45th there was room for Wiljan van Wikselaar. Not a single problem could be noted regarding the engines. You can view the full results via this link.
Tomorrow the pilots will fly from Al Qaisumah to the capital Riyadh. It is the longest special (465km) with a very fast section of 200 km in length and rocky surfaces at the end.
