Billy Bolt is the first Hard Enduro World Champion
With a second place at the Getzenrodeo in Germany, Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing's Billy Bolt won the world title in the World Hard Enduro Championship. After a year-long battle with his closest rival Manuel Lettenbichler, he scored the same number of points overall but won the championship thanks to a higher number of second places during the year.
The action at GetzenRodeo was intense. During the morning qualifying race, Bolt and Lettenbichler swapped positions at the front for the entire two hours, with Lettenbichler winning by just three-tenths of a second. Going into the afternoon final, Bolt knew that a second place finish would give him the overall victory and guarantee his name would go down in history as the first ever FIM Hard Enduro World Champion.
With the Hard Enduro Championship now concluded for 2021, Billy is immediately looking ahead to the opening round of the 2022 FIM SuperEnduro World Championship, where he will attempt to defend his 2020 title during the five-round indoor series.
Billy Bolt: "World champion! What a wonderful feeling that is. It's going to take a while to process this. I can't believe I'm the FIM Hard Enduro World Champion. It was a great race today. We all knew what we had to do, and we made it happen. I rode great in qualifying this morning, but I hurt my finger. I had a bit of a hard time with that at the beginning of the afternoon race and made a lot of mistakes in the beginning. But I recovered, regrouped and recovered. When I got back to second place, I closed the gap to Mani to one minute, but I didn't want to risk anything. It was a great moment to cross the finish line as world champion. It's been a great year and I can't thank the whole team enough for their support. We did it!"
