Ivano van Erp wins his second of the season!
With a first and fourth place, Ivano van Erp won the fifth race of the European 125cc Championship. The 16-year-old rider thus achieved his second victory of the season. Second place in Arroyomolinos goes to Bobby Bruce (4-2) followed by Lucas Coenen (2-8). In the standings, Valerio Lata continues to lead with eleven points ahead of Bruce. Kay Karssemakers loses second place to the Briton who has five points more.
Karssemakers (8-5) is good for fifth place today ahead of Lata who did not have a strong first heat. The Italian recovered later in the afternoon and won! Scott Smulders (5-10) also scores well while Sacha Coenen only manages to finish the first round in the points.

The best start in the first heat goes to Julius Mikula who is followed by Alexis Fueri, Scott Smulders, Karlis Alberts Reisulis and Nicolas Duhamel. In the initial phase, Smulders gets past Fantic driver Fueri and the BT Racing driver knocks on leader Mikula. This is not easy to pass, causing an entire train to be trapped behind the leader. As a result, the riders change position almost every turn! Smulders opens the attack on the leader but he gets into trouble, causing Canet to pass. A little later the Spaniard manages to take over the lead. Van Erp has now also worked his way into the top five and the Yamaha rider has managed to improve further. The KNMV rider has to fight with Bruce and both Coenen brothers, but when he has free rein he works away. At the front, Canet tries to increase his lead, but Van Erp is faster and takes the lead with nine minutes to go. Then it is Lucas Coenen who puts pressure on the home rider, but Canet resists bravely. When Coenen manages to take over second place, Van Erp has almost a three-second lead. These are eliminated and that makes for an exciting final phase, but there is no real attack from the Belgian. Van Erp wins ahead of Coenen and Canet who manages to hold off Bruce. Smulders crosses the finish line in fifth place ahead of Sacha Coenen. Karssemakers scores eighth place while Valerio Lata does not get further than 18th place. Still a missed opportunity for the Boxtel native to make up even more points in the title battle.
2e some
In the second moto Nicolò Turaglio takes the lead but Pablo Gutierrez quickly takes over. The Spaniard then quickly distances himself from Lata, who has now started the match well. Smulders follows, just like Sacha Coenen, who is also in the leading group. After the first full lap, Gutierrez has a lead of more than five seconds over Lata, while Sacha Coenen has worked his way up to third place and Smulders drops back after briefly leaving the circuit. Gutierrez is allowed to do the leading work for more than ten minutes, but then Lata and Sacha Coenen have closed the gap again. Lata takes over the lead and the 14-year-old Belgian starts to impose himself more and more. However, after more than 20 minutes he leaves the race with machine trouble and that clears the way for Lata. Bruce has a nice final sprint and manages to catch up with Gutierrez, which gives the Briton second place. The Spaniard finished third ahead of Van Erp, who therefore became the winner of the day. Karrsemakers crosses the finish line fifth and Lucas Coenen comes eighth after a small slide. Smulders completed the top ten. Cas Valk did not finish the first round and will not start the second round.
Next time:
After the long break between the second and third games, the games now follow each other in rapid succession. Next week the points will be distributed at the Arco di Trento circuit.
