Coldenhoff: “Try to get the most out of it.”
Without a doubt, Glenn Coldenhoff expected more from his first season in the Yamaha factory team. The 30-year-old rider currently occupies eighth place in the FIM MXGP World Championship standings. In Arroyomolinos, the Brabander finished thirteenth after starting the first heat so well. Here 'The Hoff' tells his story together with teammates Jeremy Seewer and Ben Watson who are fighting through a new contract.
Jeremy Seewer:
“Things are definitely starting to improve. I had a very difficult time here last year and I think we have taken a big step forward with my driving and the feeling on the track. I had good speed and a good time in the timed training. I have to start working on the first two turns. I always get good starts, but then it seems like I'm in the wrong place at the wrong time. If I come through the first bend in second place, the chaos as I enter the second bend leaves me in sixth place. I quickly picked it up again after that, but when you're like me, not in top form, it's difficult to get ahead when it's all so close together. You have to be 100 percent. I scored well today. I tried my best. I have to keep working on myself, keep working hard to improve my fitness and also with the team and the bike. We still have work to do to get back on the podium and that's why we keep going for it."
Glenn Coldenhoff:
“We tried a number of things with the engine setup this morning. It was quite difficult to do this in the short time you have. We didn't quite get to where I would like to be but I tried as best I could. Every time I go on the track, I try to get the most out of it. It felt good in the first moto. I got a very good start. I rode in third place and worked my way up to second place. A number of riders managed to pass me and unfortunately I came into contact with Jeffrey Herlings, which caused me to fall. As a result, I could not achieve more than tenth place. In the second moto I got a worse start, but still pretty good. My riding and feeling were the same as in the first moto. Once again I had a small crash and finished fourteenth. It's not where I want to be and I'm quite disappointed. We will continue to work hard to get back to where we want to be.”
Ben Watson:
“I had a good start to the day. Because I twisted my ankle last week, I decided not to ride much in the timed training. I had a good feeling and managed to set a better time than last week. Unfortunately I put my foot down in the first moto as you always do, but he got hit again. I felt good, but after a week of rest he was still not strong enough. We decided to skip the second heat so as not to make the situation worse. I hope I can drive in Arco and feel good there again."
